What we shipped

AIM Transparency labels AI-generated images on WordPress so a site can meet Article 50 of the EU AI Act, which starts applying on 2 August 2026. It does three things, and it does them free:

• A visible badge on the image, which is the deployer’s actual duty, on any theme.
• IPTC and XMP provenance written into the file itself, so the disclosure survives being downloaded, re-uploaded or re-hosted.
• schema.org JSON-LD, so machines can read what a human can see.

There is a second half of Article 50 that most tools ignore: if visitors can talk to an AI on your site, you have to say so. The plugin covers that too, and its free site checker will tell you which chatbots and generators are already running on a URL you paste in.

Everything above is free and nothing is locked. A paid add-on handles automation for people running real volume: flagging on upload, a library scanner, formatted reports.

02Why botherThe honest bit

Why we built it

Most of the AI Act conversation is aimed at the companies building models. Almost none of it is aimed at the person who runs a website, published a few AI images, and now has a deadline. That person is a deployer under the law, and their duty is short: disclose clearly, at first exposure.

We also think a disclosure tool has to be honest about its own limits, which is why the plugin will not let you set a badge colour that fails contrast, will not let you suppress a disclosure through its own API, and puts the total of your undisclosed images in the free export rather than behind the paywall. A compliance tool that can be quietly configured into lying is worse than no tool.

It is built by one person, under the name itisnothuman. The illustrations are AI-generated, and we say so on every one of them, which felt like the least we could do.
